Just curious if anyone has the 2nd Gen Dishy and how it has been performing so far? Also wondering about the quality of the build. 1st gen seems quite robust.
Hi Gerry..... The Roam dish is rectangular 24.1 x 22.6 inches. It comes in a structured shipping box that is 28 x 23 x 12 inches, and of course is packaged with the router, 75 foot cable, and a metal tripod. You can buy a hard case pvc suitcase specially built to carry the whole kit for just under $400. from Starlink. You can view all this under "Shop" by putting in your order request and before finalizing your purchase. I think the suitcase would fit in a airliner overhead bin as a carry on, but They may question you on the X-Ray machine as it would be unusual for "Security" to see this. The advantage of the Roam package is that you can suspend full monthly payments by pausing your service when ever you want, and of course the mobility set up anywhere feature. This is why you pay $50.00 plus tax pm more for the Roam Dish package than the residential fixed package. The hardware purchase price is the same, but unless you purchase the Roam Package you may have to wait several months to get Service Activation. I see today the hardware purchase price is reduced to $199 from $750 with immediate Activation on the Roam Dish package.
I have had my Roam Dishy 2 for 15 days now...located Manitoulin Island Northern Ontario...first set up temporarily on my lawn...worked great, now set up on Starlink 7' 6" post mount just above lower edge of my standard pitch house roof....100 % clear sky view. Signal ranges from 45 to 210 Mbps down and 10 to 85 Mbps up....only mid of night few seconds interruptions. Very pleased so far. Plan to take my dish on our RV Camping and to Florida 5 months next winter. Elimination Eastlink 4 Mbps signal and reduced Shaw Direct Sat TV Channel Plan with increased Streaming, plus eliminate Florida Internet Service provider cost makes my $192.10 pm Starlink cost about even with the past expense and with vast improvement in signal strenght. Only worry I have is it appears Customer Support from Starlink is virtually non existent...kind of on your own, but their online interface is very good. Dave
Hi Dave, thank you for this. I am considering the Roam.
i’m planning on living and working in Mexico for six months and Canada (BC) for six months per year.Is there an advantage of the roam device over the standard device?
I travel carry-on-only whenever I can, so size is important. It looks like the Standard device is small enough to go into a carry-on bag, but has anyone done this? Is the roam slightly more collapsible? I couldn‘t find the dimensions of Roam; do you know size and weight? Anything else I should know?
I just got my gen 2 and got into my home net work using bypass mode. fairly easy.
but during the evenings, i"m only getting 4 - 10 mb download, clearly not acceptable. Have a support call open. i need to make my return decision by 10/12 and unless performance is drastically improved, it's going back.
we are are a tv station in las vegas and we will be covering the NFL experience at the strip. We will be using the system to its maximum capabilities for those 3-4 days :)
@shay martin Oh wow! That’s so cool! I’d be interested to know how the Starlink handled the event if you get the chance to reply after the fact. What TV station in Vegas?
got ours yesterday. In las vegas. Avg. 225mbps down / 15mbps up. Quality of the build is great. Bought ours from a guy on EBAY as we needed one ASAP for an event that we are covering for the NFL draft in April.
Awesome, I have seen a few of them for sale but they usually get snapped up quick. That should be a good test of the system. Interesting, is this a public event or are you covering it from home Shay Martin? Just curious about the strain that will be put on the Starlink and what it will be able to handle. Thanks for the comment!
That’s great! Even with older repeater equipment still pulling in decent speeds. Thanks for the update on V2.0 from what I’ve heard seems to be pretty comparable to the first gen in performance. We will see what happens when the satellites start to fill up, but so far so good! How long did you have to wait for your system? Some people are over a year long wait time.
I ordered, and it was on my doorstep within two weeks. I feel for those that have been waiting though. I think it's mostly due to my northern latitude and rural setting. I only know of one other Starlink user here and he is about 25 miles away as the crow flies.
Got got mine last week set up in about 30 min have two computer with no wifi but had two old comfast 2.4 ghz repeater with ethernet port I an getting 30mbs dl this is the max for the repeater get the same on the phone when in CONNECT to them with phone . but when connect phone to the starlink router 5ghz wifi I get 100-200 mbs dl. Had 4in of snow did not show it down.
Just got mine today, I have second Gen dish. Very well built and for having a storm today and just setting the dish on my truck, it's been working great. DL has been anywhere from 100-260 Mbps, upload is 15-20 mbps, ping is sitting around 30-50. It's just wifi for now, as I am waiting for them to ship the ethernet port. Until i can get the poll up, the dish is seeing about 2% of the sky blocked.
Good to know. I personally haven’t seen any myself but have read they are lighter and more cost effective for Starlink. I wonder if the quality will be the same as the first generation..

Have yet to see one myself in person but have seen a few posts on Facebook with them being installed in Canada.
