Also does “everything” come with It? The mesh router says optional. For those in rural areas do you think the mesh really worth purchasing?? I don’t wanna have to go back reorder again. As a follow-up: I did reach out to Starlink Support (if that is such a thing) before I completed my order to ask if I could simply swap the 150' cable vs the 75' cable and pay the difference. NO reply

I have read a few threads along this vein but not sure if I got a clear answer so I will describe my scenario.

I have ordered, and will soon receive, my Starlight kit ( with rectangular dish). The kit includes the 75 foot cable.

I plan to mount the dish on a pole on my property that is approx 150 feet from the utility room in the house where the router will be located.

I can get inside the house (via conduit) for the first 50 feet but will well short of the utility room.

So, the 75 foot cable for the kit will not work in this scenario.

I have extra (un-committed) Cat5 cables running from the pole into the utility room.

Here is question #1: Is the Starlink cable compatible with Cat5?

Question #2: Can I cut the Starlink cable and connect it to the Cat5 and then reconnect the Starlink cable on the other end of the Cat5 line - near the location of the router?

In other words, can I add 75 feet of Cat5 line in the middle of a Starlink &75') cable and it would still work?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It isnt hard to standardize it with the right pin config from one of these McCown 800-GIGE-POE. ISP Supplies is a good source for that. Or a dishypowa that is pre set just for it. And use a REOLINK Power Adapter, 52V 2.88A found on amazon to power it.

We are just switching over to the Starlink system (in progress) and the best location for the dish has turned out to be a clearing approximately 270 feet from where the modem will be located in the house. My question then is about appropriate cable length, connections and such. What to use/where to buy? I can do it but am wondering about the "factory vs aftermarket" materials. We are located on the coast of BC. appreciate any advice,

Hello everyone. I suggest you check out this web site. My company sells and deploys this tech all over the place where needs for extra long POE, and data runs are needed. If you think this might work for extended runs, let’s give it a try. This is commercial grade gear. I think should be affordable for this application (if it would work). I ended up putting the router and ethernet adapter in a drywall bucket halfway to the dishy. I ran an AC extension cord and a Cat6 cable to the bucket as well. The Cat6 cable connects to the Asus RT- AX3000 router in my home network. This is a temporary move while waiting for my 150 ft cable from Starlink. It works fine.

Has anyone thought of/tried cutting the supplied "proprietary ended" cable and connecting it back together with couplers and cat6 cable??

Just got my Gen2 in and setup this weekend. Where I want to put the dish and where I need the router to be, I already have cat6 wire. I was wondering if I could cut the cable that came with it and couple it back together instead of trying to feed it through a wall, a ceiling, an attic and another wall. I have cat6 already run from the attic space to where the router needs to be and it would be SOOO much easier if I could do that.

Has anyone tried this yet with the Gen2?

Hello Ron, we have done this a number of times now and had success with TP-Link, Linksys, D-Link and Ubiquiti. We haven't done a Netgear router yet (I do have one in my truck that has been waiting for hook-up) I think you will be just fine, I have seen others set them up and claim they work fine and they are a major brand. My only suggestion is to maybe think of upgrading to an AX router instead of AC but this is really dependent on your situation as the AC routers are still really good. AX routers just deliver better bandwidth and connectivity.

I purchased the Ethernet Adapter and picked up some CAT 7 cable. I'm gonna use the StarLink Router in my house and add a WiFi Router in my workshop/office...

Any recommendation for a WiFi Router that I can connect to the other end of the Ethernet cable?? I'm looking at a NETGEAR AC1200 from Amazon..

Cat6 yes, but Cat5 will work to. The most important thing is that it is outside/burial cable. It will protect much better and last longer in the elements. How long do you think the cable needs to be?

Hello Bruce, you can definitely do that. There is a bridge mode on The Gen 2 router allowing you to run another network system/router. You have nothing to worry about:)
