The standard Gen 2 supplied cable is much too long for my installation. My run will only be about 15 feet.
What might I do with the excess ? (not interested in cutting and splicing)
Related question, is the SL cable rated for outdoors / harsh
weather? Are you folks protecting your wires somehow?
thx
Hello Richard, welcome to the community! These are some great questions, as far as what to do with the extra cabling it really depends on your situation. The extra cabling
might be needed in the future, if you‘re in trees then you might need to move Dishy when they start to fill in. In this case leave your extra slack outside, maybe rolled up under the eave. If your in a large house then you might find you need to move the router to get better coverage in the home, in this case leave the slack inside. If you have both scenarios then leave a little at each end. The cable is outside Rated, able to handle the heat from the sun and the cold of winter, this being said it still is a good idea to protect the cable as much as possible, even with conduit. With all the past installation we’be done for other providers, the suns UV rays are by far the most damaging to the cable over time, some cabling lasted 10 years well others we’re dried up and cracking within a few years. Time will be the test for Starlink, so far from what we have seen it’s holding out well. Hope this helps!
